Hi, I'm Jess Roycroft.

A front-end developer & alive human.

a photo of me! sitting in front of a cool brick wall.

I live in Toronto and make websites.

After getting my degree in anthropology, I moved to Toronto where I attended HackerYou's full-time front-end web development program. I like the challenge of always having something new to learn, and I use my growing knowledge to build responsive, creative websites with good bones.

I love the dev community, and I've stayed involved by mentoring at Ladies Learning Code workshops and volunteering as a buddy for new bootcampers. I also like reading, singing badly to the National, and gazing adoringly at my kitten Benjamin.

Some of my tools and skills: HTML5, CSS3, Sass, jQuery, JavaScript, AJAX/APIs, Wordpress, responsive design, Git, Gulp.

What I'm learning: ES6, React

API App | "Today on Mars"

This app uses the NASA API to access the latest pictures of Mars taken by the Curiosity Rover. Select from each of its different cameras to see the landscapes Curiosity is exploring. I initially intended for this to be a Mars weather app, but it turns out that without atmosphere the weather is pretty much always sunny and deathly freezing. You can still check, if you want.

Javascript & jQuery Quiz | "Who's Your Dream Justin Trudeau?"

This quiz determines which of five babely versions of Justin Trudeau is your perfect match. Made in a team of three using paired programming shortly after the election when everything was shiny and hopeful.

PSD to HTML Conversion | 'Podcast'

One of the first projects I ever did was this responsive site coded from a static PSD. I've learned a lot since then but it does have a working soundbar.
